Hey, John.  You have a terrific site and your projects are ingenious.  I have got more ideas for my shop and for jigs in the last hour of surfing your site than I  have from other sources in the last year.  I love the overarm dust collector.  Now all I have to do is figure out how to make it work with my Biesmeyer fence.

Hi Jerome,
I looked at a few shop-built floating guards before building mine, and they all seemed too complicated.  I'll admit that the setup you see in the pictures was intended to be temporary until I made one that suspended from the ceiling.  Here we are, 5 years later, and I'm still using my temporary concept.  It's not because I'm lazy, it's because it's working well Smile

I'd say keep it simple!

Did you try making the guard "floating"? I've been thinking of building something similar to this since I saw something similar in a recent Shopnotes. Your design looks better than SN's, but it looks like both clamp the shroud at a set distance from the blade...

Hi Vincent,

Yes, the guard was purchased from Penn State Ind. (sister company to MLCS) for $24.  This was a decent price in my opinion.  You could build the plastic guard yourself, but it might be a bit tricky and not quite as visible as this one:

Hi John,

Fantastic site!  Learning a great deal from your posts and videos - thanks!  Do you have any project plans/drawings for your Overarm Dust Collector?  If not, can you at least provide a list of materials with quantities used?  I may be able to figure out how you put it together from that.

Cheers,
Matt
